Tomorrow will beanother day with opportunities, but one must have will for embracing those moments, as witnessed by society in past. Back in year 2000, I was working in Kmart in Connecticut. A girl named “Rita”was also workingas cashier in the same store. She was pleasant and a little bit chatty. As a floor supervisor, I noticed it.
One day while I was in HR Department, I overheard her conversing with HR personnel regarding the shortage of cash and wrong transections as well. Later on, I happened to see her in person over lunch. There, I brought those issues to her attention and advised her to be careful. During this conversation, I noted her not to be concerned about these issues. Instead, she stated that her last week was rough, but it would get better next week.
Two-weeks went by with no news, but in third weekmy boss told me to cut her hours as she didn’t show any improvements. I felt bad because I knew her personally. Next day, I visited her to explainabout issues related to cash transactions. I also emphasized she should use her free time for counting cash, instead of socializing. However, her answer was same as the last time, i.e., that it will get better. Next morning, I kept an eye on her and noticed no change in her behavior.
In the following week, I was on vacation. After returning from vacation, I was informed by HR personnel that she does not work here anymore. This ruined my whole day as I could not forget her smiley face and little jokes. At night when I had my own free-time, all memories flashed back to me. Then, I recalled a few others whose life was like her. They were expecting and hoping their situations to change without taking any initiatives for changing themselves.Instead, they were quick in blaming and finding faults in others, such as finding problems in workplace, spouse, co-worker, offering advice others with no solicitations, and so- forth.
Reality is a little different…Nothing will change until you change. When people have willingness and burning desire to switch, the changes will occur largely due to the following behaviors as witnessed in history:
Positive Attitude:A positive mental attitude is a big asset with a proven record of success. If a person desires to do better,he should believe that he can. Find something positive in every situation is the key.For example, you can curse a traffic jam, or you can use time to listening audio books, and it gives a sense of accomplishments. A person who makes positive commentswhile conversing with others, often in return he receives the same positive remarks. It reinforces to develop a positive attitude.
Self-Assessment:Before taking any actions, person should analyze the circumstances. When someone ends up having a long period with failures, it is time for the person to examine the cause. The cause of failures can be either circumstance or person’s own personality. If it is because of one’spersonality, then person should explore the long-term consequences and make necessary changes, instead of putting oneself down. Remember nobody can make you inferior without your consent.
Strength-Zone:Identifying one’s strength, such as resiliency and passion;and building a career on it is another strategy that has been found useful in life. While working in a job that is aligned with person’s passions provides a natural platform to excel. But most of the time, people do not try to identify their own strengths, as it needs a lot of courage to explore it. There are examples in history that have demonstrated the power of their passions. The recent TV show known as “The Kapil Sharma Show” is an excellent example in this category.
Self-Discipline: Whenever desires arise from the mind in reference to self-control, it generates positive energy. Therefore, define your mindset and channel your energy for achieving goals in your life. Let’splan for small incremental-progress and stay focused towards achieving it, such as bemore productive today. Celebrate your little success, no matter how small. If you do 10% more. Be happy about it and decide to aim higher such as 20% for tomorrow. After improving up to your satisfaction, choose something else that you were procrastinating.
Perseverance: Change is difficult. It is true in work, family or among friends. Not only the big reversal, little bit transformation in personality as well as in action requires a lot of effort. But mentally tough people can achieve it by their perseverance, patience and steady mental makeup. So, keep going…
