Namaste Everyone. Yoga means addition – addition of energy, strength and beauty to body, mind and soul. We should strive to add this yogic activity to our daily routine. That will enhance our energy and beautify us from inside and outside. Abhyasa which means regular practice everyday be it in morning or evening is the key. Smile, relax and wipe out all your tensions and anxiety with regular practice of yoga.
This month we will be focusing on Mayurasana which is a hand balancing pose. It stimulates the elimination of toxins from the blood, assisting the removal of skin conditions such as boils. All the digestive organs are massaged and intestinal peristalsis is stimulated.
Mayurasana
In Sanskrit, Mayur Stands for Peacock and meaning of Asana is Pose or Posture. This is a pose when peacock struts around with its plumes down.Peacock Pose has huge number of advantages, and in spite of the fact that it looks entangled, with a little practice, Mayurasana (Peacock Pose) is very simple to do.
Steps
• Start this pose by sitting on your heels. Keep some distance between your both knees.
• Keep your hands on the ground with fingers points towards your body. Slowly bend your elbows and press them towards your belly.
• Keep your abdomen firm. For this place your head on the ground, and work up the quality in your stomach.
• Now stretch your legs out, in a way that your knees are straight and your feet are facing the floor.
• Keep your shoulder bones strong and pushed into your back. Fix your bum and lift your head and look forward.
• Move your body weight forward and raise your legs from the ground. Lift your body by your hands and it should be parallel to the ground.
• Remain in this pose about 30 seconds and you can increase the holding time about one minute by daily practice.
• After that put your head and feet on the floor and release the pose.
Breathing: Exhale while raising the body from the floor. Inhale while lowering the body back to the floor. To begin with, hold the breath out in the final position. Advanced practitioners may breathe slowly and deeply in the pose. Allow the breathing to return to normal before attempting a second round.
Awareness: Physical – on maintaining balance.
Spiritual – on manipura chakra.
Contra-indications: Mayurasana should not be practised by people with high blood pressure or any heart ailment, hernia, peptic or duodenal ulcer. This pose should not be attempted if there is any sign of illness or physical weakness. Pregnant women are advised not to practise it.
